DDCET Physics: The Topics That Carry the Most of BE-01
Five Physics topics dominate the science paper. Here is why they matter, and how to approach each one.
BE-01 is the science and engineering paper, and Physics is its backbone. Five topics — Units and Measurement, Classical Mechanics, Electric Current, Heat and Thermometry, and Wave Motion/Optics and Acoustics — together account for well over half of the paper's weight.
That concentration is good news: mastering a small number of Physics topics moves your BE-01 score more than almost anything else you can do.
The five core topics
- Units and Measurement — dimensional analysis, SI units, errors and significant figures. Quick marks if you know the rules.
- Classical Mechanics — motion, Newton's laws, work, energy and power. The biggest problem-solving area, so practise numericals.
- Electric Current — Ohm's law, resistance, series and parallel circuits, and power. Formula-driven and very predictable.
- Heat and Thermometry — temperature scales, heat transfer and specific heat. Conceptual, with simple calculations.
- Wave Motion, Optics and Acoustics — wave basics, reflection and refraction, lenses and mirrors, and sound. Diagram-heavy, so revise the ray rules.
Do not ignore the rest
Chemistry and the general topics still matter. Chemical Reactions and Equations, Acids Bases and Salts, and Metals and Non-metals make up a meaningful block, while Computer Practice and Environmental Sciences carry their own weight — and they are often the easiest marks in the paper because they are factual.
How to revise Physics
- Revise one topic, then immediately attempt 10 to 15 MCQs on it.
- Keep a one-page formula sheet per topic and review it every week.
- Revisit every question you got wrong — in Physics, a wrong answer usually points to a single misunderstood rule.
Because the weightage is so uneven, the fastest way to lift your BE-01 score is to make these five topics automatic before you broaden out.
